Insurance, guarantee letter (GL) and maternity packages
A published package price can be a self-pay offer only. Of 54 verified hospitals, 15 state self-pay only, 2 say a guarantee letter (GL) is accepted, and 37 are silent. Silence is not insurance OK — confirm with the hospital and your insurer before you book.

“Accepts GL” here means the hospital's own package terms say a guarantee letter is eligible. It is not a list of every insurer panel. Confirm your letter with the hospital before admission.
Self-pay only
These hospitals state that the published maternity package is for self-paying patients. If you intend to claim via insurance or a GL, treat the package price as provisional until the hospital confirms it still applies. Some hospitals will still admit you on a letter, but bill panel tariffs instead of the package figure: so the marketing price you compared may never appear on your statement.
Self-pay only is not a clinical judgment about your pregnancy. It is a commercial term on the package. Couples with strong medical cards still need this check, because maternity is often carved out of ordinary hospital benefits even when the hospital is on the insurer panel for other admissions.

Guarantee letter accepted
These hospitals state that a guarantee letter can sit with the package. That still leaves panel limits, co-payment and room entitlement to check with your insurer and the hospital. “Accepts GL” on the hospital page is not the same as “your letter covers this package”. Call both sides with the package name, room tier and expected delivery month.
Ask whether the letter must arrive before admission, and whether admissions will still hold a deposit while the letter is pending. Those cash-flow details sit beside the payment term itself.

Why the unknown column matters
37verified hospitals do not say whether the package survives a GL. Silence is not “insurance OK”. Ask before you book: does this package price still apply with my guarantee letter, and which room tier does my panel cover? Get the answer in writing from the hospital, then confirm the same facts with your insurer.
Payment terms are one of the four conditions that commonly push a bill past the advertised package. See what voids a maternity package. A silent payment field is as much a budget risk as a silent emergency caesarean price.
Maternity and ordinary medical GL
A guarantee letter (GL) for general hospital admission is not always a guarantee letter for maternity. Insurer FAQs commonly list maternity as excluded, capped, or subject to a waiting period separate from other medical benefits. Even when a hospital says it accepts a GL, your panel letter may not cover the package room tier or the obstetrician fee. Reading the hospital package page alone is not enough; the insurer FAQ is the other half of the same check.
Waiting periods matter in practice. Couples who buy a medical card late in pregnancy often find maternity still excluded when labour starts. Employer panels can change mid-pregnancy if you switch jobs. Confirm the maternity benefit, the waiting period end date, and the hospital panel list before you pay a booking deposit against a package you cannot claim. If the benefit is a fixed maternity lump sum rather than full package cover, ask how that lump sum is applied against hospital charges versus doctor fees.
Read your insurer FAQ alongside the hospital page. Then check whether specialist fees sit inside or outside the package in specialist fees inside a maternity package, and which clinical events void the price in what voids a maternity package.
What a GL still leaves on your bill
Hospital acceptance of a guarantee letter is not a blank cheque for every line on the discharge statement. Co-payment percentages, annual limits and room entitlement are set by the insurer, not by the package poster. If your panel covers a twin room and you take a single, the upgrade difference is usually yours. If the package nights run out, extra nights may fall outside the letter the same way they fall outside the package. Newborn nursery or NICU charges are another frequent patient gap when the letter was written for the mother's admission only.
Package night counts and how hospitals treat longer stays are in how long a maternity package stay covers. Room tier prices, where hospitals publish them, are in room tier prices on maternity packages. Match the room your panel pays for with the room the package prices, not the headline four-bed figure alone.
Timing and add-ons survive payment method. Labour after office hours, or on a public holiday, can still reprice the package even when a GL is accepted. Epidural and assisted delivery can still sit outside both the package and the letter. See office hours and maternity package prices and epidural cost on a maternity package. A guarantee letter that covers an uncomplicated office-hours birth may still leave you paying those add-ons yourself.
Hospital charges versus doctor fees under a GL
Private bills often split into hospital charges and doctor fees. A guarantee letter may settle one ledger and leave the other as patient pay. Ask the hospital admissions desk and your insurer the same three questions: does this letter cover the maternity package room; does it cover obstetrician, anaesthetist and paediatrician fees; what co-payment remains if the package voids on emergency caesarean. Write down the answers with dates; verbal “should be fine” is a weak basis for a five-figure admission.
Percentage-discount hospitals add another twist: the discount may apply only to hospital charges for self-pay patients, while a GL patient is billed on panel tariffs instead. Do not assume the marketing percentage survives a letter. Fixed versus discount pricing is explained in fixed package price or percentage discount. Deposits due at booking or admission, including when a GL is pending, are in maternity package deposit and admission.
Common questions
- Does a corporate medical guarantee letter (GL) cover maternity?
- Often no, or only within a separate maternity benefit. Many employer medical GL policies exclude maternity or cap it separately from ordinary hospital admission. Check your insurer FAQ before you assume the package price applies.
- If the hospital is silent on GL, can I use insurance?
- Silence is not insurance OK. A hospital that does not state payment terms may still bill you as self-pay. Confirm with both the hospital and your insurer before booking.
- If the hospital accepts a GL, are specialist fees covered?
- Not necessarily. Hospital acceptance of a guarantee letter and insurer cover for obstetrician, anaesthetist or paediatrician fees are separate questions. Ask which ledger the letter settles.
- Does a GL remove office-hours or epidural surcharges?
- Usually no. Package locks such as office-hours delivery, public-holiday surcharges and epidural add-ons still apply unless the hospital and insurer both say otherwise in writing.
Checklist before you rely on a GL
- Does my insurer maternity benefit cover this hospital and this package?
- Has the waiting period ended by my due month?
- Which room tier does the letter pay for?
- Are obstetrician, anaesthetist and paediatrician fees inside the letter?
- What happens to co-pay if the package voids on emergency caesarean?
- Will admissions still collect a deposit while the letter is pending?
