Office hours and maternity package prices

Labour does not follow a hospital clock. Of 54 verified hospitals, 19 state a definite office-hours rule: 9 lock the package to office hours, and 10 say they do not. Silence is not “24-hour package price” — ask for the written window and the after-hours charge.

“Office-hours only” here means the hospital’s own package terms say the advertised price applies during official office hours. Exact clock times differ by hospital — commonly weekday mornings to late afternoon, with shorter Saturday mornings.

Package locked to office hours

These hospitals state that the package price is for delivery during office hours. Delivery after hours or on a public holiday usually attracts a surcharge or a different rate — labour starting at night is not rare.

Not locked to office hours

These hospitals state the package is not limited to office hours — or that after-hours delivery is still under the package frame. That does not remove other void conditions such as emergency caesarean.

After-hours surcharge versus package void

Two different outcomes show up in hospital terms. A surcharge keeps the package base and adds money for after-hours or public-holiday delivery. A void drops you onto the hospital’s usual (non-package) rates. We only mark a hospital as office-hours-locked when its materials say the package price itself is tied to that window — we do not invent the surcharge amount when the page is silent.

Office-hours locks sit beside emergency caesarean and epidural exclusions. See what voids a maternity package and epidural cost on a maternity package.

What to ask in writing

  • Exact office hours for the package (weekdays, Saturday, public holidays).
  • Is after-hours a surcharge or a full package void?
  • Does “admission time” or “delivery time” control the clock?

How office hours sit next to stay length

A package that quotes 2 days 1 night still bills you for the room under its night count. After-hours delivery can change the price frame without changing how long you stay. Night counts we verified are listed in how long a maternity package stay covers. Payment rules (self-pay versus guarantee letter) are separate again — see insurance, guarantee letter (GL) and maternity packages.

If the hospital is silent on office hours, do not assume the headline price holds at 2am. Ask for the surcharge table before you pay a deposit. Deposit timing is covered in maternity package deposit and admission.

Common questions

Does labour outside office hours always void the maternity package?
Not always. Some hospitals void or reprice the package; others add an after-hours or public-holiday surcharge while keeping the package base. Read the hospital’s own terms and ask for the hours in writing.
Are public holidays treated like after-hours?
Often yes. Many package pages pair Sunday and public holidays with after-hours surcharges. Confirm the hospital’s list of excluded days before you book.
