Why deposit silence is still a budget item

Couples often discover the deposit only when the admissions clerk quotes it. By then the package is chosen, the obstetrician is booked, and the due date is close. Asking early does not commit you; it tells you whether the hospital wants cash months before labour, and how that cash relates to the package price you are comparing across hospitals.

What to ask before booking

If the package page is silent, ask the hospital in writing: how much is the booking or admission deposit, when is it due, is it refundable if you deliver elsewhere, and what happens to the deposit if the package voids on complication. Booking deposit versus admission deposit

Hospitals rarely explain this clearly on the package page. A booking deposit locks your package registration and may be due weeks or months before your due date. An admission depositis collected at check-in and may be a separate figure from the booking amount. The “When” column in the table above shows which label each hospital uses where we have it.

Some families pay both: a booking deposit to hold the package, then a larger admission deposit when labour starts. Others only see one label on the materials. Ask whether the booking amount is deducted from the admission deposit, or whether both sit on the bill until discharge. Deposit cash flow versus package stay

A deposit is cash timing, not the same thing as the package night count. You may pay a booking deposit months before a stay that only covers 2 days 1 night for normal delivery or 3 days 2 nights for caesarean. Extra nights after that stay still land at discharge, separate from whether the deposit was high or low at booking.
